PEER SUPPORT PROGRAMS
PWO provides individual and group peer support to people experiencing a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) which can include symptoms of depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD or Bi-polar.
PWO provides free group peer support to people experiencing a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD). Our Virtual Drop-in Peer Support Group is for pregnant people and parents seeking peer support in a group setting. The aim of the group is for peers to provide and receive support around Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), challenges with parenting and other challenges that present in the perinatal period. PWO facilitates a group that is welcoming, non-judgmental, and compassionate in order to be able to share authentically about our struggles. Check out our group program page for details about our virtual drop-in group.
In our individual peer support program, an individual will be paired with a Peer Support Volunteer who has previously struggled with a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) related to fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, pregnancy or the postpartum period. We are not currently accepting any applications for this program.
Our Peer Support Programs are not crisis programs and we do not offer crisis supports. Peer Support Volunteers do not provide mental health evaluations of any kind, and our services are not meant to be a substitute for mental health therapy or medical treatment. If you are struggling with your mental health you can reach out to us for support and we also recommend you seek an assessment from a healthcare practitioner or a therapist.
As a Peer Support Program, PWO welcomes your feedback about any programs we facilitate. Please send us any comments, concerns or suggestions you might have to help us improve our services. You can contact our Peer Support Program Manager, Karin Thoms at peersupport@perinatalwellbeing.ca or our Executive Director, Christine Cunningham at info@perinatalwellbeing.ca.
